The trial has begun for a man accused of drunk driving and killing two men last January. The incident happened on January 2, 2018. The other day, Giovanna Dominguez testified that there were two rear-end crashes that night. One of them was allegedly caused by 38-year-old Jeffrey Brian Levi. Prosecutors say that Levi was driving over 100 mph when his Ford Mustang struck a Toyota Corolla. They say this disabled the sedan in the fast lane of Interstate 15. After that, a Ford Explorer then struck the Corolla and the vehicle burst into flames.

As a result of the crash, Dominguez’s brother and boyfriend were killed. She escaped by crawling into the front seat and getting pulled from the wreckage.

Levi, who has a previous DUI conviction, could face up to 40 years in prison if he is convicted. At Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP, we know that drunk drivers are just one of many dangers that people face in and around the city. When you need a San Diego car accident attorney, call us today.

WHAT HAPPENS ON OUR ROADWAYS

This state sees hundreds of thousands of vehicle accidents each year. When we look at the numbers provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, there were 3,387 fatalities and nearly 12,000 serious injuries due to traffic accidents in the latest reporting year.

When we look closer at San Diego’s specific numbers, we see that there were 9,476 people injured or killed due to traffic accidents for that same year. While many of those injuries were minor, we need to point out that even minor injuries can lead to major medical bills.

When it comes to more serious injuries (spinal cord injuries, internal bleeding, traumatic brain injuries, and more), the medical costs can become tremendous. That does not include the cost of extended rehabilitation, any necessary home modifications, and other pain and suffering damages.

If the insurance companies are not going to cover all of those costs, a person could be left in financial ruin.
The story above shows just how many lives can be changed when people make the choice to drink and drive. We are also facing the growing problem of distracted driving as more and more people are using technology when they should be paying attention to the roadways.
