More Disturbing Information About Tesla

When it was reported last week that Tesla’s on-site medical clinic is rarely allowed to call 911 if a factory worker is hurt, it should have surprised us. Unfortunately, we have heard so many horror stories about Tesla working conditions over the last year or so, this seems like their norm.

Tesla’s California assembly plant has an on-site medical clinic to serve around 10,000 employees, but we are now hearing from five former clinic employees who say that the clinic’s practices are unsafe.

Among the many problems, former employees said that “Workers with chest pain, breathing problems or extreme headaches have been dismissed as having issues unrelated to their work, without being fully evaluated or having workplace exposures considered.”

Clinic supervisors would also often use medical equipment that did not have to be logged, such as butterfly bandages, instead of stitches. One employee said that braces were removed from the clinic entirely so they could not be used.

All of this in an effort to “fake” the injury numbers for the factory.

At Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP, these practices disturb us. Do you know what to do it your employer is doing something similar or if you are having workers’ compensation claim problems?

When you need a San Diego work injury attorney, we will be by your side, fighting to secure the compensation you need.

What Can Happen

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were nearly three million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses reported in 2016.

Many of those claims come from traumatic injuries that happen in the work environment. Some industries are more dangerous than others, but all workers have the potential to become injured. We often see:

  • Falls
  • Getting struck by objects
  • Electrocutions (mainly in construction)
  • Getting caught in-between objects

We also want to mention some lesser-known types of workplace injuries.

Repetitive stress injuries are common in the workplace and happen when a worker repeats the same motion over and over again for a period of time. Since the symptoms of these injuries manifest themselves over time, they are harder to pinpoint on workplace causes.

Mental health illnesses often arise in workers in high-stress jobs and they can be debilitating. Cases of depression, anxiety, and PTSD should all be taken seriously as a workplace injury.

Respiratory illnesses can be caused by prolonged exposure to chemicals, fumes, and dust particles. The illnesses that arise sometimes take years to manifest and are often the result of a lack of proper respiratory equipment on the job.

What You Can Do
