We want to bring you a story from a bit out of our coverage area to highlight some of the dangers that construction workers face every day. This accident happened last week in Fremont, California when a rebar tower fell at a construction site they were working at. Three workers were taken to the hospital and one was in critical condition after falling 20 feet while attached to the tower.

After the accident, the site was closed off when joint state and federal inspectors arrived to investigate the cause of the crash. They will be looking for any workplace violations that took place.

The construction industry is particularly dangerous, but many of the accidents can be prevented. Most of the time, constructions accidents are caused because of the negligence of another worker or the company itself.

If you need an exceptional San Diego construction accident attorney, you can count on Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP. Our knowledgeable and experienced team will work with you to get the compensation you deserve.

DANGEROUS JOB

When it comes to construction fatalities, OSHA has what they call the “Fatal Four,” which is the top four ways construction workers are killed on the job.

  1. Falls
  2. Getting struck by objects
  3. Electrocutions
  4. Getting caught in between objects

We know that there are many other ways to get hurt on a construction site, but we also know that employers can put preventative measures in place. At all times, workers should be provided with proper safety gear. This can include the following:

  • Proper shirts and pants
  • Gloves
  • Helmet or other headgear
  • Protective eyewear
  • Footwear
  • Respiratory equipment

Any time a worker is climbing or working while elevated, they should be provided with a harness and clipped onto a secure location to prevent falls.
If employers fail to provide the proper equipment, employees are much more likely to get injured on the job.

At all times, companies should be mindful of safety. All new employees should be trained in overall construction safety and every worker should be well-trained for their specific job. Often, this means employees have to undergo training updates as industry standards change.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Do not wait to seek legal advice if you have been injured in a construction accident that was caused by someone else’s negligence. Yes, workers’ compensation is supposed to cover these accidents, but they often do not cover all of the expenses you will encounter. Also, if a third-party contractor was involved, you may be eligible for more compensation. We often find that third-parties do not have the same safety standards as the companies they partner with. This can lead to major workplace accidents.

At Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP, we will investigate your case and get to work on securing the compensation you need for all of your accident-related expenses. You should not have to suffer financially because of a workplace accident. You can contact us for a free consultation by clicking here or calling our office.
