We have seen an abundance of medication being recalled lately, but the latest alert from the US Food and Drug Administration is ringing the alarm bells.
Right now, we are learning that a medication used to treat heart failure is being recalled due to the presence of a possible cancer-causing substance. The company involved is Aurobindo Pharma USA, Inc. and the medication is Valsartan tablets in varying lots.
The recall is “due to the detection of trace amounts of an unexpected impurity found in the finished drug product.” The product is N-nitrosodiethylamine and is classified as a probable carcinogen in humans.
We have seen many medications recalls over the last few months, particularly revolving around blood pressure and heart medications, things that so many people depend on for survival. Unfortunately, at Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP, we know that there are many other kinds of products recalled on a daily basis as well. When you need a San Diego product liability attorney, you can count on us to get the compensation you need.
What Can Happen?
The last thing you need to worry about it that something in your medicine cabinet is tainted. Those medications are there to help you, not hurt you. We know, though, that product recalls take place across industries:
- Food and beverage
- And more
Faulty products are more common than most people realize and these problems arise in a few different ways:
- A poorly designed product should never make it to the store shelves, but sometimes it does. Despite testing, some product flaws are not discovered until it is too late. Worse, a company may know a product has a design flaw and not say anything. we use or consume is subject to design flaws.
- Other times, a product experiences problems when it is being manufactured, altering it from its original design.
- A product that is not labeled correctly can lead to major problems. Any product we use has labels that give us instructions and dosages, ingredients, hazards, and more. If there is a labeling problem, a product will be used improperly.
There is a government website that tracks current recalls. Through that site, we can see that there are so many products we may not think about that can cause harm, and those are just the ones that have been discovered. If it a product is found to be faulty, a company must move quickly to minimize the harm it can cause to consumers. Ultimately, they could be held liable for any injuries or damages that are caused due to their negligence.
