Fast Food Workers Routinely Face Danger

If you have been watching the news lately, then you may have seen a few recent instances of fast-food workers being attacked by angry customers. Outside of the industry, most people do not think of fast-food jobs as being dangerous, but that is not the case. This article says that they “often encounter routine risks, violence, and injuries while on the job.”

Earlier this month, a McDonald’s worker was attacked by a customer. The angry customer reached across the counter, grabbed the employee, and dragged her towards him. It happened in Florida, but this is common across the country. There was also a McDonald’s drive-thru worker who was injured when a customer threw hot coffee in her face.

According to studies, 87% of restaurant worker’s have been injured at work over the last year. Many had been burned and others cut. At Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP, we want you to know we are here for you if you have been injured at work and not offered compensation through insurance or your employer. When you need a San Diego workers’ compensation insurance attorney, call us today.

Why Get Denied?

Many people are denied workers’ compensation claims. Worse, some are even fired for reporting an injury. This leads to many people making the choice to work through their injuries rather than risk their jobs. Many people live paycheck-to-paycheck and cannot afford time away from work. Being denied coverage for an injury or getting fired can be detrimental.

Why would a worker be denied coverage?

The simple, yet horrible answer, is that is will cost the employer. They do not want to risk their premiums going up.

We know that workplace accidents are common. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that there were nearly three million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses reported in the latest year. They are not all major injuries, but many are. They can range from traumatic injuries like tool mishaps and lacerations to chronic illnesses and repetitive stress injuries.

Regardless of how an injury happens in the workplace, it is not right for a worker to be denied. In California, there are strong worker protections in place to help employers when this happens, even for those who are migrants working undocumented.
