When you go to work, the last thing you want to happen is an accident that leaves you with injuries. Unfortunately, there are many industries that are riskier to work in than others. The construction industry is one of them. Late last month, a horrible incident occurred across the state in Concord.

Four workers were taken to the hospital when some large stones fell and struck them in their workplace. When first responders got there, they discovered one man suffering from traumatic injuries from the stone as well as two others injured. Another man hurt his foot while trying to use a forklift to remove the stone from the first man.

At Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP, we know that the construction industry can be dangerous, but companies should take steps to keep their employees safe. If you need a construction accident attorney in San Diego, you can count on us to get the compensation you deserve.

THIS IS DANGEROUS WORK

Have you seen what OSHA called the top causes of fatal construction accidents? They call them the “Fatal Four,” and they include:

  • Falls
  • Getting struck by objects
  • Electrocutions
  • Getting caught in-between items

The incident we talked about above was an incident of getting struck by objects. Luckily, nobody died in those incidents, but there are many non-fatal construction accidents and these end up costing people dearly when it comes to medical expenses and more. Here are some of the main causes of non-fatal construction accidents:

  • Floors, walkways, ground surfaces – if the floors are uneven or if there are obstacles, workers can trip and fall.
  • Parts and materials – from building materials and structural metal materials to lumber and nails, these are huge contributors to injuries.
  • Worker motion and position – when it comes to worker bodily motions such as walking, climbing, bending, twisting, and more, if they are done incorrectly or a worker has to strain, they can become injured. This also includes repetitive stress injuries that develop over time.
  • Hand tools – we are talking about knives, power tools, shovels, drills, etc.

It is up to companies to make sure employees have the equipment they need to do each job they are tasked with. This equipment can include:

  • Clothing
  • Headgear
  • Eyewear
  • Respirator
  • Equipment
  • And more

Anything a worker needs for safety should be provided, including proper safety training. If a company fails to do this, they could be held liable for worker injuries.
