Experience:
Judith “Judy” Beal is a mediator and arbitrator with Hiden, Rott & Oertle, LLP. She works in the Firm’s San Diego and Imperial County Office, is a member of the executive committee of the Firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Department and an active member in the Firm’s Labor and Employment, Litigation and Family Law Departments.
Ms Beal specializes in Labor and Employment mediation relying on more than 30 years experience in organizing ADR committees, conducting hundreds of ADR sessions and writing and instructing classes on arbitration/mediation preparation and presentation. She has perfected her ability to identify the issues, and engender discussion while educating all parties of their risks and benefits to a rapid resolution. Ms Beal was named “Labor Leader of the Year” in 2002 by the San Diego and Imperial County Labor Council while serving a second term as President of the Communications Workers of America, Local 9509.
Ms Beal has extensive practical experience working closely with clients of all sizes, including industry groups, large national and multinational corporations and growing businesses. She has negotiated numerous multi-million dollar collective bargaining agreements with corporations in the fields of manufacturing, construction, healthcare, telemarketing and telecommunications. Dealing from experience on Management and Non-Management positions has instilled confidence in Ms Beal’s ability to be fair and look for the best solution for both sides of a dispute.
Ms Beal has extensive experience in training of Labor Relations and Cooperative Management programs in areas of ADR, arbitration/mediation preparation, conflict resolution, and wrongful terminations. The majority of this experience has been with large corporations such as SBC, Home of Guiding Hands and Sanyo E&E.
Ms Beal assists clients in resolving disputes without litigation through various alternative dispute resolution procedures, including nonbinding and binding arbitration and mediation. Ms Beal assists clients in establishing dispute handling systems for different categories of disputes. Ms Beal also works with the Firm’s transaction and litigation departments in structuring dispute resolution contract clauses for inclusion in client contracts, and in individually tailored ADR proceedings and serves as an arbitrator and mediator in ADR proceedings.
Due to the increasing cost of litigation, as an arbitrator and mediator, Ms Beal has been extremely successful in resolving complex litigation matters, including but not limited to personal injury claims, commercial contracts, labor and employment matters and family law issues.
With a cost-benefits approach to conflict management and dispute resolution that weighs business litigation and settlement economics against the value of important relationships, Ms Beal offers consumers and businesses the resources to act fast, and to help prevent legal problems from becoming costly and distracting law suits.
Ms Beal is willing to travel and as a mediator has been requested to travel all over the country to negotiation sites, where she has proven herself to be invaluable by “getting the job done”. Ms Beal’s mission is to create value through conflict management and deliver sustainable business solutions.
